Chairman's report
Was that a good tournament or what? I do hope everyone enjoyed themselves and it has been great to get your feedback, both written and verbal.
There are a few “Thank You’s” I would like to make. Firstly of course to all the participants – there was some great and competitive play all carried out in a spirit of fun and healthy competition. I am pleased there were no tantrums on court, although next year could we perhaps have the odd drama moment or hissy fit so that we look less like a straight group…
I particularly want to thank our overseas players for supporting us. They brought colour and excitement to the London crowd and I hope they all went home with good reports to their clubs - and will encourage even more to attend next year. This year we had visitors from Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Zurich and even Brighton and well done to all those who volunteered to look after our overseas guests.
The Team Tournament proved very popular and the iPod prizes for the 6 winners in the main team added to the competitiveness of the games – we were pleased to see that our friends from aboard picked up 3 of the iPods.
A Tournament is a bit like a swan (no not the White Swan). I hope you all saw the grace and artistry above the water, not the frantic paddling of the committee below the surface. The committee worked very hard to ensure the success of the Tournament and I think the result is a great tribute to their hard work. All the committee made a big effort, but I think Malcolm, Fabian and David G deserve special mention – and of course we greatly missed Craig on the day but are pleased to say that he is now being even more demanding, having Hello! read to him by virgin male orderlies…
David G was a very calm and efficient Tournament Director and juggled the games and courts superbly. I will make no mention of his nationality in writing (and deny any comments I may have made at the awards dinner and plead the defence of excessive alcohol intake).
This year we also decided to provide more food – which turned out to be a good move as the supermarket round the corner had closed. The cakes supplied last year were so popular we couldn’t miss those and Phil kindly came up with the goods again this year – I think you have a regular job there Phil.
Craig was due to supply the sandwiches but when he fell ill, Francesco was dragooned into – I mean valiantly volunteered to – make the sandwiches and gave up most of his weekend to provide them. Ably assisted (and transported) by Darryl the sandwiches were much appreciated and a big thank you to Francesco and his little helper.
The masseur also proved popular and helped to ease some of the over-wrought muscles of the players. Contrary to popular belief however the difference between him and a gay man is not 6 pints of beer (although when I mentioned that to him he pointed out that he only drinks cider…)
Later in the year we will have another Mini Tournament with more team events – so watch this space.
Thanks again to all who participated and organised - and keep coming to the regular sessions… maybe next year you too can win!

Feedback
Feedback received from this year's participants:
"Thank you to all the committee, organizers and contributors to this year's tournament. I had a great time and it was great to be back on the court running frantically from corner to corner. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was great catching up with the London players and making some new friends from Europe. I loved everything about the tournament and I am looking forward to next year already." - Marco, UK
"Just want to say a big 'thank you' to the organisers. First time for me and didn't really know anybody, and yet so many people were friendly and helpful. Great experience!!" - Angelo, UK
"Think the tournament ran very smoothly and was well organised. I realise a lot of effort goes into the event, and the fact that it ran so smoothly is testament to the work put in by the committee and all those involved. Well done!!" - Glenn, UK
